A/N: This is just a one shot fan fiction on Royai, this is sort of, kinda, based on my two characters in my novel and I thought this would actually suit this couple. Seeing as one of my characters is a fire user. You have to read to see how this turns. I apologize how this turns out.

Memories of a friend

For as long as he could remember, Roy Mustang, has always known Riza Hawkeye. The two of them met very young when Roy started his Alchemy training. He saw in her, not just another person, but a friend, a very good friend. Or maybe more perhaps. Even after the war, the two had been together, working wise. He cared for her so much, he often wondered at times if she thought the same about him. Of course, he was too afraid to ask.

His feelings for Riza grew over the years, small at times, but strong in others. He rarely showed it in the office, fear of the fraternization laws. Riza continuously reminded him of that. Roy never cared; he just wanted to be with her.

While at the office, as he sat at his desk, he would periodically glance over at her as she worked. Her flawless, soft, pale skin; her dazzling brown eyes that were soft and at peace as she did her work. Her curvy figure was hidden under her military uniform. Only certain times did he ever get to see her figure beyond the uniform. Her sun kissed blonde hair pulled into a bun after she decided to grow it out.

Oh how he missed those things about her. To touch her soft skin, kiss those lovely lips. He clenched his gloved hands as he swallowed a tight lump in his throat. How could he lose her like this? After all these years? He was going to make her his. Now, he stood at her grave site, staring at her stone.

She was taken away from him only days before by an unexpected surprise. The greatest sniper around, now lay six feet underground. Riza never once backed down from a fight, never showing any weakness in the eyes of soldiers, enemies or her commanding officer. Her strength was the reason why Roy fell in love with her.

So many emotions whelmed up inside of him as he shook. There was hurt, sadness, pain, hate and anger. Why couldn't he be taken instead of her? She was the most important person to Roy. None of his subordinates could do anything for him. He felt so lost.

Here stood a man, head bowed, tears streaming down his face, the rim of his hat covering his face. He resembled a broken person; he had not felt like this since the death of Hughes.

He lost a friend, a comrade, a subordinate, but most of all a lover. At the time he didn't know how he was gong to continue on.

"I miss you with all my heart Riza," Roy whispered, giving his final goodbye.

A/N: This is shorter than what I'm use. I had this in my head for a while. Like I mentioned, this is something that two of my characters go through, but it's flipped; he dies, she mourns.
