The One Who Got Away

The dilemma with good friends thought Sakura Kinomoto is that they don't know when to stop. "So let's see if we understand correctly, Sakura." Tomoyo Daidouji's eyes flashed with mischief. "Your saying there isn't one man from your past you can stop thinking about? Is that it?
Sakura's mouth gave a twitch when she tried to answer. Drat. She wanted to lie, but it went against her morals to tell lies to her two best friends.
She raised her voice to be heard over the conversation and the music in the noisy New York club where the three of them had a routine Friday night date. She had been so eager to come here tonight she cancelled two modeling jobs and brushed off an offer of a lifetime. Then she drove her car like a mad woman just to get here on time.

"Just because some people have tracked down their past lovers and then realized they still love them doesn't mean everyone has someone that got away," Sakura said.
"Everyone doesn't have someone that got away, hon," Tomoyo said. Sakura's lips began to curve into a relieved smile. "But you do."
Sakura's smile disappeared rapidly as color creeping from her neck flushed to her face.
"Cut it out, Tomoyo," Eriol Hiiragizawa said in the slow, measured way he had of talking. "You're being too hard on Sakura."
Sakura could have kissed him smack on the mouth right then, not that she had any romantic inclinations in that direction.
With dark azure eyes, midnight blue hair and a smile any male model would die for, Eriol was a looker, if you liked the clean-cut, suit and tie type. In addition to looking like a model Eriol was considerate, thoughtful and intelligent. Not to mention a true friend. Eriol leaned back against his chair as he took a long swig of ale and raised one of his eyebrows, "if Sakura wants to pretend she never had a thing for Syaoran Li, we should let her."
He was also one hell of a backstabber.
