He hopes Buffy makes it. Believes that she will make it. He knows her friends, her family, will be there, safe.

He hopes Dawn grows up safely. Knows she'll turn out to be absolutely bloody gorgeous. Hopes Xander fulfills his role as big brother and protects her from any creeps. He knows Dawn can handle herself; after all, she threatened to put him on fire, but he worries about her just the same.

He hopes she will forgive him for what he tried to do to Buffy last year.

He hopes Willow can find herself, the sweet, smart, slightly nerdy girl, the girl she was before she went evil. He doesn't envy her the path she has to travel; it isn't easy to find redemption. But, if anyone can do it, it's Red.

Hopes she stops crying herself to sleep at night over Tara. Hopes she can find someone new who will give her the kind of love she needs, even if that person will never be able to compete with Tara.

He hopes Xander finally wises up and tells Anya how much he loves her and that he isn't worthy of her, which he isn't, but that he needs her.

He hopes Xander knows how much he means to Buffy: his loyalty, his strength, his undying love for her.

Hopes Xander knows how sorry he was, that he didn't see what Caleb was about to do and stop him.

Hopes Anya finds herself, finally realizes how wonderful she is, what a truly good person she's become. Hopes she knows what a good gesture it was, to offer up her life for the lives that she took.

Hopes that Giles and Buffy make up. He knows Giles will protect her and help her; that their recent conflict was the result of Giles's dealing with Buffy growing up. He knows how much Giles loves Buffy.

He hopes that Joyce and Tara are up there somewhere, looking down on him, understanding why he's doing this.

He hopes they're proud of him.

He promised Buffy that she could always count on him.

This time, in his own way, he gets to save her.

And he knows now.

This is what he got the soul for. So that Buffy wouldn't have to watch Angel die. Not again.

She told him she loved him.

He told her no, she doesn't love him.

Not yet.

She'll love him for this.
