Shell Of Emotions

By Any Unborn Child

It's a funny thing being in love. When you're thinking of something to say, your words mumble and jumble to form an intelligent sentence, and when you're not thinking of something to say, you're thinking about how to act around the person you deeply care about. This may not happen to everyone, though.

The person floods your mind with images and thoughts, ending with you blushing until there's no tomorrow when he compliment you on your aim in a sport or even what you're wearing. You end up wanting to pick out even better outfits the next day, just so he can think you're pretty. In reality you think of yourself like dirt, and the compliment brightens your day to full proportions.

One thing though is that whenever the two of you were alone, or when you just happened to be sitting next to each other, the two of you end up having small talk. No real conversations, just regular small talk. You hated the fact that the two of you couldn't talk about any real issues full-hearted, you wanted this big connection that everyone dreamed of, but instead it was "Hi," "How are you?" "Good, and you? "Good."

You knew it was never meant to be. He loved someone else. Your heart hurt as the temptation to tell them how you felt grew stronger and stronger with each moment that passed. But with quiet self-deprecation, you restrained yourself, knowing that if you did reveal your feelings, peril would ensue and nothing would ever be the same. He'd only reject you even more. Pieces of your soul rotted away as you withheld your emotions. You'd never see the light of day.
