"Ughh." Bruce sighed heavily and shut down his computer with a heavy sigh. The new formula for a cure wasn't working, and it frustrated him. Seemed he was destined for a life of being a monster.
This was close to the hundredth attempt to come up with a cure, and like all the other times, it had failed.
He hated the beast, and thought he tried everything, but the gamma radiation was still in his blood.
He was done. He sighed and sat on the couch in the corner of his lab. He just wanted to give up, to be done with it all, but he got a call that distracted him from his hopelessness filled thoughts.
He picked up the phone, glad for the distraction. "Hello Bruce, come here immediately. We need you. We have something for you."
He did not have to ask to know that voice. Director Fury.
He was at the headquarters in ten minutes. He knew better than to make the Director wait.
Nick had him brought up to a conference room. "Your work in the avengers was commendable, and we have decided to repay you for your services."
He raised his eyebrows. He was handed a piece of paper with an address." Dr. Marianne McLaughlin is the only person who knows as much about gamma radiation as you.
She studies radiation and genetics. She lives in Memphis, Tennessee. This is her address."
Bruce knew he was done. When Fury was finished, there was no getting anything else out of him.
He contemplated this news as he rode down the elevator.
He made his decision. He was going. Tonight.
He didn't know what was going to happen, how this was a service, but at the least he was getting a well-earned break from his tireless hours of work.
