Glances
She made her way down the familiar busy street, through crowds of people. Slowly but surely she made her way. She glanced into a store window and thought she saw him, but she was wrong. She continued down the street, mumbling.
She bought herself a cup of coffee and stood in the middle of the store staring into her cup. She thought she had seen his face swim inside it. But, once again she was wrong. She continued down the street as it became busier, still muttering to herself.
She looked down into a puddle and she could have sworn she saw him smile up at her. Just then his face became scattered across the sidewalk as a passerby stepped in the middle of it. She straightened up and continued walking down the street mumbling to herself.
She stood on a corner. She thought she heard him whisper to her. She spun around as quickly as her frail body would allow her to. Her long curly brown and grey hair wrapped around her wrinkled face. With her shaking fingers she brushed the hair away from her face and realized no one she knew was there. She turned around and continued walking muttering under her breath.
She turned through an alley and pushed open a creaky gate that lead to a graveyard. She slowly walked to his grave her hair blowing away from her face, exposing her beautiful aged face.
She stood over his grave and said "I thought I saw you today…..A few times actually. In a shop window, in my coffee, in a puddle, and on a street corner, all not far from here. But you know what I said to myself each time? I said it couldn't have been you. Not my Harry. My Harry was lost to Voldemort nearly fifty years ago and he left me all alone. You now what? (tear rolls down her cheek) I still love you. More now than then."
She placed her half drunken cup of coffee on the grave. A gust of wind blew by and the cup fell over, expelling it's contents across the top of the grave. She looked down into the spilt coffee and smiled. There he was again. This time in her reflection on the water He gave her a kiss on the cheek. A shimmer of cold ran through her and another gust of wind blew by. She blinked and he was gone.
She smiled broadly as she slowly walked out of the graveyard. She closed the creaky gate behind her. She walked up the alley and back onto the busy street. She closed her eyes as she walked. She knew that street so well because she had walked on it every day for the last fifty years.
