Acting on Impulse
by Zzilly14

Sharona glared at her boss. "Adrian.... why can't you be spontaneous for once?"

"Because everything must be planned in advance. Months in advance."

"But it's fun to sometimes do something out of the blue that's unplanned. Adrian, I'm asking you – do something out of impulse once. The rest of your life can be planned out, I don't care. Just do one thing that you normally wouldn't do. Dance in the rain. Go bowling. Just... something!"

"I can't dance, Sharona. And there'd have to be an umbrella. And bowling alleys..." He shuddered. "They're full of germs. And people. And disgusting food."

The nurse shook her head and didn't say another word for the rest of the car ride. However, she had unknowingly planted a seed in Monk's head, causing him to consider possible capricious activities.

A few weeks later, Sharona was unpacking the groceries at her house when the phone rang.

"Hello?" she answered.

"Sharona, it's me."

"Oh hey Adrian," she rolled her eyes. "What's wrong?"

"Can you pick me up at the mall?"

She gasped. "The mall? Adrian, you're in the mall? An actual mall?"

"Yes," he replied. "But I'm stuck here. And there's no way out. Help please?"

"Sure thing, Adrian. Just stay calm!"

She quickly ran out the door and drove to the mall as fast as she could. When she got there, she walked all around, finally finding him sitting alone on a bench near Penny's.

"Adrian? Are you okay?"

"I'm doing better," he responded, still affected by the madness.

The blonde-haired assistant sighed. "What are you doing here, Adrian?"

"I went shopping."

"What?"

He chuckled nervously. "I didn't buy anything though. Everything had too many germs."

"How did you get here?"

"I took a cab."

"A cab?" she shrieked.

"It was hard trying to give him the money. It was too crinkly. He said he'd take it anyway, but I insisted that he should have perfectly flat bills."

She helped Monk off of the bench. "I'm glad you're okay, Adrian. If I had known about this, I would've been worried sick!"

"That's why I didn't tell you," he smiled. "I wanted to be impulsive for once."

Sharona beamed as the two walked out of the mall.
