A Cat, A Fire Truck, A Police Car and A Police Man…

Jennifer and Matt sat in the waiting room of the hospital emergency room at 7:30 one night, their 3 and a half year old son James sitting on Matt's lap, chattering incoherently to his father about nothing in particular.

"Unka Sinon and Unka Dunan said!" He squealed, as he chatted with his father.

"Is that right, buddy?" Matt replied, grinning at the antics of his son.

"Yesss daddyyyy, izs, twoo!" He replied, angrily, his tiny eyebrows furrowing.

"Ok, ok James." Matt replied laughing, holding his hands up in mock surrender.

Jennifer watched this interaction between father and son, laughing at some of the things that he was saying.

"James Ryan?" Called a voice from across the other side of the room.

Jennifer rose to her feet, slinging her handbag over her shoulder as Matt gathered James up in his arms, following his wife.

The doctor laughed as James waffled on about his mummy and daddy being police officers and how they kept the people safe as he proceeded to pull the little toys out of his nose.

Pulling the last one out, he lined them all up, asking James why they were all up there.

"Jewrry te kitty gotted stuked, so I sented te fire twuck up tere to helwp Jewrry, den dey had to call te powice to helwp, but te powlice mand an his cawr cowdnt helwp, dads why mummy an daddy bringed me to the howspital."

The doctor looked over to Matt, the amusement on his face was evident as he laughed at his son's story about the poor little cat, then his attention shifted beside Matt to Jennifer, her head in her hands as she shook it, looking rather embarrassed.

"James," He started, getting the 3 and a half year olds attention. "Why was Jerry the kitty up there in the first place?"

"He was espoording, liet mummys kitty, his nambs Jewrry too." He replied, looking at the doctor as if he had grown a second head.

The doctor laughed as Jennifer let out an exasperated "Oh god."

Matt looked at Jennifer, laughing as he replied, "Told you he loved Jerry."

The doctor handed the now newly cleaned toys back to Jennifer who hastily shoved them into her hand bag, before getting up and picking up James, resting him on her hip, thanking the doctor on their way out, Matt laughing as his son kept going on about why he shoved the kitty up his nose, Jennifer telling Matt not to encourage him.
