Once again I'm not Bryke. Based off a prompt byaquarium-mermaid on tumblr.
"Lin's getting so beautiful." Katara gushed while sipping tea. Three year old Lin and Tenzin were playing with some ball, Tenzin using his budding air bending abilities to push the ball and Lin bending the dirt floor to tilt the ball back to her friend. Many people thought it was odd that Toph had chosen to make her home with a dirt floor, but for those who knew her best, it seemed like a natural fit.
"Thank you." Toph said solemnly. Katara let the subject drop. It was easy to forget that although Toph's special type of sight was functional, she will never be able to see her child's face. Katara watched her son, not being able to imagine what it would be like to never look upon his face, to actually see his face light up with joy when his father came home from a particularly long trip.
The rest of the visit commenced normally, Toph asked how things were going back home. Katara asked how her bending academy was doing well. Business was at an all time high; Toph actually had to send students away for lack of space in her classes. Soon it was time for Katara to meet her husband to go home and the two parted with a hugs and well wishes.
Now alone Toph listened to the sounds of Lin singing a made up tune while launching her dolls in the air using her earth bending. She couldn't help but feel a stab of sadness. Normally her lack of sight didn't bother her, and if it did it was easy to push it to the back of her mind. She could see just as well as anyone else, just in a different way. Hell, she was a human lie detector and Aang still called on her for particularly difficult missions.
She picked up Lin and felt her face. The toddler didn't mind, it was a normal occurrence. Toph could feel the symmetrical lines of Lin's face that she knew denoted beauty, but she still wished she could see her. See the jade eyes everyone told her Lin had. What did jade even look like? She pushed the thought from her mind. It didn't matter if Lin's face was completely lopsided and deformed she was still the most beautiful baby in the world. What did physical appearances mean to a blind person anyways? Absolutely nothing, just as it should be.
Toph gave Lin a hug and sat her back down on the floor. "Lin, you are the most beautiful girl in the whole world." She said giving Lin a kiss on the forehead, and Toph meant every word of it.
