The sun was fading in the areas past. It had been days since Allie had
last seen Nick. Nick, her only friend in the quest to be free to live. He had
been the reason she got this far, him, their ghost friend, and Mikey McGrill. Now,
Allie's only drive, only want was to go home. She was fortunate to have
Mikey along with her. Since last seeing Nick, she'd traveled far, on horseback
with Mikey McGrill. They settled in for the night at a small clearing in the woods.
I couldn't believe how far I've come, untill now. Mikey was setting up a tent
and I sat facing the stars. Just a few days ago, I was following Nick to freeing the souls.
The horse was tied up to a tree, making himself confortable in the grass. We set a small bowl
of water next to him when we got here. Mikey was my ticket out. He was a willing ticket. And
for that I was forever grateful. "Hey, it's uh ...ready," Mikey called from the tent. He must of felt
ockward it being him and I. I called back to him, "Thanks, but where will you sleep?" Before I even
noticed, he appeared next to me sitting at my side. "Outside, near ol' horsey hear." He could always
make me smile. And as much as I hated to admit it, I liked him. But i could never, would never, let that
become a problem. So, I bit back what I wanted to say, no, you can sleep in the tent. It's cold out
and said, " Okay, need an extra blanket?" That only lead to me handing him another blanket and
saying good night. No hug. No anything. Just words.
The next morning I woke up to find that Mikey wasn't around. It was strange to think
that after all this time, everything he said and did, that it was us now, trying to get home. I wrapped
up the tent and strapped to the back of the horse when I noticed him in the woods, by the tall pine tree.
I didn't know if he wanted company so I just continued. I knew this was strange for him and all, but
if it was what I had to do to get home, so be it. JUst as I finished packing up, he amerged from the
woods. "Hey, glad to see your up," Mikey grinned through his teeth. He looked like a poor kid from 1910,
but somehow struck me as hansome now. "Yeah, I was getting ready to head out. What rode are we taking?"
Mikey jumped on the horse and held out his hand for me to jump on, " I'll show you." Once I got on,
and held on to his waist we were off. Mikey was carefull to not take the rodes. He traveled through the
forest floor along side the main road of New Jersey. I only saw fast flashing by cars and trees for miles. We
didn't talk for an hour or two but when we reached a problem, No more forest floor, dead end, he jumped off
and said," Stay put, I'll find a way to travel by road". Then I grumbled a bit and nodded. Mikey came back in a few minutes with a disapointed face, " Sorry kiddo, nothing." I grumbled, "Well thats great now let me try." I rummaged
through the forest to find anything. To my disapointment, he was right. "Great," I grimaced, "now what?"
In that moment, a breeze, not a sweet smelling breeze, but a ghastly reeking breeze blew through
the air. I looked up to find a plane. Shit, I thought. I grabbed Mikey and ducked. "Mary." He nodded as if I explained enough and stayed put. The plane flew right over us, heading west. I ignored her and the thoughts that followed such as "What's Nick doing?" I looked at Mikey, "What now tough guy?"
