Sasuke stood over Itachi's kneeling form, holding the sword to his own throat.

"Sasuke, no. Please, little brother, don't do this." Itachi begged desperately. Sasuke glared defiantly at Tsunade.

Five years previously:

Sasuke glared at the pink-haired girl beside him through the corner of his eye. Girls like her disgusted him. Always flaunting things they didn't have, always eyeing him to see if he would so much as glance in their direction, always squealing like pigs when he walked in.

Naruto hopped up on the table. He glared at Sasuke who glared back. People shouted for Sasuke to hit Naruto, but before he could shove the bratty blond away, Naruto fell forward. Their lips touched. Sasuke froze. In one motion the two boys kept away from each other. Killing fellow citizens is a crime. Don't kill the idiot, Sasuke thought.

Iruka interrupted the brewing beatdown and began to assign teams. If I am going to achieve my goal, having these losers on my team is unacceptable, Sasuke thought, Naruto and Sakura? Which abnormally stupid person chose us to be a team?

Lunch was relatively quiet with Sasuke only having to turn down Sakura's invitation to eat as a 'team' and deal with Naruto jumping him. Nevertheless, when it was time to meet their Jônin sensei, Sasuke was on time. Unfortunately, their sensei wasn't. Minutes turned to hours, Naruto pulled a prank, Sakura whined like a dog.

Finally, their sensei appeared. Kakashi Hatake, Sasuke thought, One of Obito's former teammates.

"How should I put this?," Kakashi said," Based on my first impression, I'd have to say… I hate you."

Five minutes later, on the roof of the academy, Kakashi orchestrated icebreakers. Sasuke felt a fleeting moment of pity for everyone who had to deal with this man. Sakura asked an idiotic question when she asked how to introduce herself, Sasuke thought.

"You all should know my name by now. There are plenty of things I hate, but I don't see that it matters considering there's almost nothing I do like. Dreams are pointless. The thought of fulfilling my vow fills me with determination. There is someone I have sworn to kill." Sasuke said coldly. Sakura gave a disturbing introduction, throwing her disgusting lack of anything resembling ambition into the limelight.

When Sasuke was safely secluded within the Uchiha clan hiding spot, he activated his Mangekyō Sharingan and stared in the small mirror hung on the wall. How long, Itachi?, Sasuke thought, How long can you last?
