Death. Though others stumble over themselves to flee it and recoil at its touch, death has always been a good friend of mine. As Audrina Prescott looms over me, stone in hand, ready to end my life, I'm not scared. I'm not sad. I'm not angry.

Death is beautiful.

But dying is even better.

The deep red of the cuts in my wrists. The swirls of silver and blue that form as my eyes tighten. The bright yellow light that beckons to me from a distance. I let out as much of a giggle as I can muster at the whole thing. This has been a fun game after all.

My finger twirls ever so slightly as I paint one last little blood spiral. I try to reach for my grassy crown, but my hand only twitches in response. I can only hope it makes me look as pretty as I feel.

My eyes tighten again and more colors bloom from the darkness. Is this what all of the bunnies saw? The birds? Aphrodite and Harbor and the skinny girl from Ten? Everyone else whose blood I've seen spilled?

My mother?

My daddy?

They say when death is coming, your life plays out before your very eyes. As Audrina grits her teeth and lowers her rock, mine does.

They say I'm the mad girl. The evil girl. The one to stay away from.

Some may call me the sweet girl. The innocent girl. The one who was ruined.

Or maybe the brilliant girl. The knowing girl. The one who had it all figured out.

She'll rip you open and play with what's inside. I've seen her do it once.

She sings and she dances like any other little girl. It's not her fault, you know.

She's not as clueless as you think. She knows what she's doing.

Ah yes, they talked. But none of them ever knew.

Now they will.

My mind has been opened, and not just in the literal sense.

My name is Roman Jane Caulder.

My life was a game; and you're about to play it.

As the creator of District Nine's Roman Caulder, I decided her story couldn't end with her death in the 71st Annual Hunger Games. This prequel will be documenting her life leading up to her fateful reaping. We'll have many questions answered as we follow little Ro on her trip to insanity; just be careful not to let her drag you with her. If you haven't yet, I suggest you read Seventy One Years by BeccaJoy. It will give you a good taste of just who Roman Caulder is; on top of being possibly the best SYOT on this site!

I promise I'm not as scary as I seem, and I'd really like to hear your input on this story! Feel free to PM me with any ideas for Roman's story or questions you would like to see answered

Also, I'll only continue this story if this prologue gets a good response. So if you are familiar with Ro and want to see how she became who we know her as today or you just want to hear a good story, please drop me a review to let me know you'll keep reading!
