Silver Mirror
Draco fidgeted nervously. He wasn't normally the gift giving type, but for Hermione, on today of all days, he would make an exception. He gripped the crimson package between his hands, waiting impatiently outside the Ministry for her. She was supposed to get off early; she always did on this day. Glancing down once more at his pocket watch, he pushed off the railing and made his way to the Apparation point, determined to be the first thing she saw.
With a pop! Hermione appeared before him, a tired smile in place on her weary face.
"Draco, I thought I told you I wanted to be alone today," she told him, trying to walk past him.
"Hermione, wait. I know what you said, and I promise, I'll leave, I… I just wanted to give you something. You're turning thirty today, that's important. Just take it, please," he told her, gently moving a stray curl behind her ear and placing the crimson box in her hand. She sighed but took the package, gently unwrapping the gold bow that graced it's smooth surface.
"You didn't have to get me anything, Draco."
"I know. I also know how much trouble you have on this day. You did what was best for you parents, Hermione. You kept them safe."
"Yes, and now they will never remember me," she whispered sadly.
"Just open it."
Hermione carefully pulled off the beautiful paper. She took the top off of the small box and gasped at the beautiful silver mirror nestled amongst mounds of white cotton.
"Draco, it's gorgeous, thank you."
"It's a very special mirror, Hermione."
"How so?"
"It's enchanted. You can look in it any time you want and it will show you… it will show you your parents in Australia."
She gasped at his words.
"Oh Draco," she said in a wobbly voice, tears gathering in her eyes. "Thank you."
"You're welcome. I'll let you get home. Owl me tomorrow, okay? We can do something. Anything you want, just… you know, be careful tonight."
"I will."
