The last day of their lives…

On the last day of their lives, did Lily and James do everything they ever wanted to do? Did they climb Mount Everest, visit Paris, or even simply say goodbye to their friends and family? No. they did none of this because they didn't know that they were going to die: not at all.

So what did they do? Well, Lily sat in the Living Room complaining about the cold whilst piling sweets into baskets for the trick-or-treaters for that night, whereas James and Harry were outside with Sirius: Harry playing on his broomstick, James and Sirius chasing him around like the loonys that they were.

Lunchtime came and went, with the Potters, Sirius and Remus – back from the Ministry – eating sandwiches and drinking orange juice. The afternoon passed in a nap for Harry, Order duty for Sirius and Remus, leaving Lily and James to relax together, snuggled up on the sofa, content just being in each others company.

The Potters sat down for a lovely dinner of beef and roast potatoes, along with 3 veg of course – Lily was a health fanatic. Did they know that this would be their last ever meal as a family? No, don't be stupid! Then, they all went and sat in the living room, Harry and Lily on the floor, looking up at James blowing smoke rings with his wand. Nobody noticed the dark cloak slithering up the path until the front door burst open with a bang.

James threw his wand down foolishly, whilst Lily gathered up the sleepy Harry, and ran for the stairs. James called valiantly that he would hold him off – but hopw could he, sans his wand? Lily ran with the tot, into the master bedroom – she had left her wand! – and frantically piled boxes up next to the door, whilst Harry looked on, wondering what the game was.

The boxes flew from the door, and Lily stepped to shield the cot from sight of the evil man standing there: he chuckled loudly, making Lily squirm back from the revolting sound – he stopped and stared. He glided over to the cot and began to prise her arms from the cot sides before deciding – why leave one alive when you can kill them all? Who cared if he broke his promise – he broke enough of them as it was.

So he killed her, with a flash of green light whilst the tot called Harry looked on, watched his mother fall to the ground in a heap – never to move again.

Then the wand turned on Harry, and he stared the man in the face – he had no idea what had happened – his mother may pop up again any second: this man may have been like Sirius or Remus – he met enough strangers every day, this may just be another.

Then the stranger began talking in an evil voice, lifted his wand up, and that was when Harry began to cry – when the wand swiped down towards him. But then, he didn't fall like his mother, oh no, the stranger began yelling, twisting and turning and being dragged away into nothing.

Harry lay there, wondering what was happening – where were his parents?

Dead. That's where they were.

The last day of their lives: was it good, was it bad? Would you rather have an amazing day of everything, or one last normal day being you with your families? But to be ripped away without a warning, how hard is it?
