When the Student Surpasses Her Master
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the canon characters; they belong to George R.R. Martin and HBO. This is most likely an AU fic, as I've just begun watching Game of Thrones for the first time, so I'm only on Season Two. No spoilers, please!
After what seems like decades spent away from his family, Jon Snow returns home for a brief visit to Winterfell. In actuality, the illegitimate son of Lord Eddard Stark had only been away a maximum of three years. However, in that time, so much has changed the landscape he was lucky enough to call 'home' in his youth. For one, Robb has become the King in the North after the war against the Lannisters, bringing great honor and pride to the Stark family and the whole of Winterfell. Sansa, Arya, and Bran have all made it safely into adulthood with Rickon not far from joining them. It seemed to be entirely true that the Starks are hard to kill, as Jon told Robb before leaving for the Wall. Breathing in the scents of home, Jon strides into the castle's courtyard with Ghost obediently trotting alongside his master.
Due to his distraction at seeing home again, Jon barely sees the point of a blade aimed at his muscular chest.
"Hello, Jon," Arya smiles, gently tapping Needle against her half-brother's chest. "Did you miss me?" she inquires, standing side-face as Jon pulls out his own blade.
"Of course I did, Arya," Jon grins, striking his sword against Arya's and relishing in the large metallic clang it produces. "I see your skill has improved remarkably, my sister," he compliments before smirking. "But, you're still not skilled enough to best me, I'm afraid," the young man laughs as he teases Arya.
The youngest Stark daughter quickly disarms her older, stronger brother.
"How in the Seven Kingdoms did you do that?!"
"Perhaps I just like proving you wrong," Arya cheekily grins. "I do believe the student has surpassed the master, Jon," she laughs, earning her a light shove.
Author's Note: Okay, so I had never watched Game of Thrones before this year because I was not old enough to watch such a mature show, but I bought all completed seven seasons and recorded Season Eight to watch as a present to myself for my 19th birthday in May. I am only on Episode 7 of Season Two, so please do not give me any spoilers as to how the show actually ends. I will watch more episodes whenever I get the chance, but right now I'm having to work around 43 hours outside in the heat all day because about two of my co-workers quit and two others are on vacation for a few days. Expect more Game of Thrones fics from me both here and on my Tumblr, which you can find at .com if you're interested. If you have any non-spoiler requests, please let me know! Reviews, as always, are greatly appreciated as long as they contain no spoilers. Until next time, dear readers! Have an amazing day, afternoon, or night!
