Chapter One: Unwanted Guest(s)

"SARA! SARA, OPEN THE DOOR IT'S ME!" A voice shrieked through my front door.

"Oh dear God what?" I moaned, dragging myself off the sofa and stumbling to the door. Bracing myself to handle whatever the idiot wanted in an adult manner, I swung open the door.

"SARA! You're alive!" Greg practically yelled, barging past me into my house.

"I called in sick, not dead. Now get out, please."

"Yeah well you sounded like hell over the phone." Greg replied happily, ignoring my last comment. "I brought you a present to cheer you up!"

I crossed my arms. "Okay. Let's see it."

Greg pulled a water-filled clear plastic bag from his coat pocket and brandished it in front of my nose. "Ta-da!"

"Oh no, Greg. No!" I groaned, eyeing the tiny golden fish swimming around in the bag, occasionally bumping into the sides.

"Aw look, he's happy to see you!" Greg almost squealed, pointed excitedly at the bag.

"Well I'm not happy to see it in the least." I stated, frowning at my coworker.

"Sara!" Greg scolded, pulling the bag away from me and cradling it to his chest. "You hurt his feelings."

"It's a fish. It doesn't have feelings."

"You HEARTLESS WOMAN! All he wants is for you to love him!" Greg cried, snuggling the bag closer to him. "Can't you just love him and let him live here?"

"No."

"Please?"

"No."

"Please?"

"I believe the answer is no."

"PLEEEEEASE?"

"Oh for God's sake! If I say yes, will you leave me alone?"

Greg thought about for a second. "Maybe."

"Alright, fine! The fish can stay-"

"YIPPEE!" Greg was off and running, banging around my kitchen to find a bowl.

I sank back down onto my sofa and buried my head in my hands. I think I just created a freakin' monster.
