She wanted the one thing she could never have. She wasn't sure why she wanted it but she did. However he almost seemed repulsed by her. They only spoke when forced to. Sometimes she would try to speak, but by the time she mustered the courage he would be gone. She wouldn't see him for days after. They did this for years until she met Steve. Steve couldn't replace him, but it was a distraction. One day Steve decided she wasn't good enough, so he left without even looking back. It hurt for a few months, then she faded back into her dull, gray life.
It hurt for him to see her so depressed. He wanted to just hold her and tell her it would get better. He wanted to make her happy but couldn't get close. He was just too shy. He was afraid of rejection. He was afraid he wasn't good enough. He was afraid she would laugh at him. He was afraid. He stayed in a constant state of fear until one morning. He woke up alone and realized he was tired of it. He wanted her. She filled his every thought and dream. It was time to make a move. They passed each other as he entered the elevator. Spinning on his heel, he looked at her receding form. He took a breath and spoke in his voice, not the bat, not the billionaire, but as Bruce.
"Diana."
She stopped and looked at him, eyes wide in shock.
"Would you join me for dinner? This Friday? At Giovanni's?"
Her mouth fell agape. Her mind couldn't grasp the question. She struggled to find the most basic of words.
"Y-Yes. I would, um, love to."
"I'll pick you up at eight then. At your place."
She just nodded in amazement. The elevator doors began to close and she turned away. He grinned to himself. Maybe she could have him.
Wait how did he know where she lived?
