Alyss laughed as Will told yet another bad joke. They were sitting in the Redmont ranger cabin after spending most of the day down at the river.

Will smiled and reached for Alyss' hand over the table. As soon as he knew that he had her full attention, the smile dropped and Will became serious.

"Alyss, I don't know what I would do without you. You are my everything and if I lost you, my life would cease to exist. We are meant to be together," Will paused and started smiling at Alyss' shocked expression. It was obvious to tell that she wasn't expecting this. He took a deep breath and started talking again.

"Would you do me the honour of becoming a lowly ranger's precious wife?" Will said.

There was the slightest pause, long enough to make Will worried that he had asked too early or if she wasn't going to say yes.

"I would love to!" Alyss cried and threw herself at Will, who only just managed to catch her without falling to the ground.

After the proposal, Alyss lost track of time talking to Will and when a slightly lull occurred in the conversation, she looked outside to see what time it was. She was shocked to see that it was rather dark outside and heavy clouds covered the sky causing it to be a moonless night.

"It's really dangerous a night at the moment, Alyss" Will told her seriously. "There is a man preying on women walking around in the dark.

"I would be riding," Alyss said.

"He attacks everyone," Will replied.

"Well then I just have to stay the night," she said with a smile.

The next day found Will and Alyss arriving in Castle Redmont just as Halt was grooming Abelard.

"I had wondered when you would both return," Halt said with a smile when he saw the two.

"We lost track of the time so I ended up staying the night," Alyss explained and louped her arm through Will's smiling at him fondly.

"I trust you both had a good time then?" Halt asked finishing up so that he could walk up with them.

'Especially when Will proposed," Alyss said smiling fully.

"About time!"
