Instinctively she shot her light out at him, not to harm, only to stop him. The tendrils of white light curled around his feet, rooting him in place. This fueled her anger even more, as it was thanks to him that she had learnt to control her power in this way.

"You killed them, you killed them all, and you used my light to do it! How could you?!"

As she screamed, she felt moisture on her cheeks. Tears? Was she crying? She reached up the wipe them away, and saw his hand was reaching to do the same. As his hand drew closer to her face, she felt the heat and sparks of her magic, and the yearning of his. But before they touched, he drew his hand back.

"Luxanna, you are kind and your heart is pure, but, the world is cruel and Demacia is corrupt. I did what I had to do to survive. I will free all of those like us, who are shunned, imprisoned and killed, simply for the way they are born. I will not let mages live in fear any longer. You.. could come with me? We could save them, together.."

He reached his hand towards her once more. She wanted to reach for him to, was so tempted to leave behind the rigid walls and strict structure of the Great City.. but then she looked past him and saw the smoldering corpses he had left in his wake. That could have easily been her brother, her family, and still he would not have hesitated. A deep sadness replaced her rage and the light around his feet faded.

"Not like this Sylas. If we ever want real change, we have to educate them. We cannot fight oppression with murder."

His face hardened as he said, "It is far too late for that, Little Light."

He let his hand drop and turned away from her.

As the mage strode out of the gallows, broken chains dangling from his wrists almost triumphantly, the smell of burning flesh became too overwhelming and Lux sank to her knees.

'.. what have I done,' she whispered to herself.

When Sylas reached the edge of the square, he turned back to see the young Crownguard with her head in her hands and he knew she wept for a people who could not be saved.
