Another kind of installment in my NadiaDoyle series. Enjoy...

Mouths

She finds herself frowning.

It's been months. But what is it really?

The way he kisses her varies. She can understand what he's feeling by the way he kisses her; most of the time.

However, lately everything has been confused and muddled and she's lost any clarity she thought she had with him.

Admitting this only makes her frown deepen.

Jillian is relatively new to CTU when she witnesses their first argument.

She knows she was never meant to see it, which makes her all the more uncomfortable around them.

They were in a back hallway and she was only trying to find the room that Chloe O'Brian had told her to go off to. And Chloe seemed to find her incompetent so she was about to cry in this maze of hallways and rooms.

And there they were.

Nadia Yassir, the head of CTU who she was extremely intimidated by, was shouting. Angry words were pouring from her mouth, which was curled and mad. Her pretty and almost sensual lips were hissing and spitting out anything glaringly obvious and painful.

Mike Doyle was silent, his mouth turned down in a grave line. His expression was cool and calm but his mouth was starting to break his face's stony façade. Mike Doyle was by far the most frightening man Jillian had ever met and his blankness always unnerved her.

And then he snapped.

She watched him grab Nadia and crush her mouth against his.

Jillian ran away before either saw her and came back to Chloe empty handed. Even while Chloe berated her all she could picture were their mouths and how they moved.

-

He likes to watch her mouth move.

It doesn't matter if she's discussing a tactical operation or shouting at him.

Those long weeks ago of being blind and only hearing her voice have made him sensitive to the beauty of her mouth. In a way, he's almost greedy for it.

Not that he tells her this.

He keeps his own mouth firmly shut.

-

When their fights rage both ways, it can be explosive.

When their wars turn silent, it chills below zero.

But these fights can end with a simple apologetic smile.

-

Words weigh her down but relying on expressions is proving to be faulty.

Trying to read him can be like looking through a foggy glass.

You're never completely sure of what you're seeing or if you like it.

He almost seems to know this. So whenever her mouth turns down and she looks away from him, he presses a kiss to her forehead. And in his own way he's saying sorry to her.

-

Morris has never liked Doyle.

But when there are no frown lines around Nadia's mouth he knows the blond bastard (as he still refers to him) had something to do with it.

-

Standing together in her office, she struggles to think of something to say. All at once, she feels guilty, sad and broken. And he sees it in the way her lips tremble. He can't stop his own from turning down and mirroring her expression.

"I don't know what to say," she gets out biting her lower lip hard.

"It will be ok," he tries to reassure her with a weak imitation of a smile.

Suddenly her lips stop trembling and her mouth breaks into a watery smile. He watches her confused as she laughs and hiccups.

"We're a mess," she says solemnly with a surprisingly bright look.

"You're a mess," he replies smirking.

The cement on his face breaks away as he gives her one of his rare but beautiful smiles.

"We'll be ok," she says resolutely, her mouth thinning.

In response, his mouth curves almost tenderly and he kisses her.
