Hi, this is my first fanfic, and I'm hoping you all like it. This is the story, in place of the second book, of Harry's second year of Hogwarts. A death eater, known as Reine Crotter, has been seen lurking around the grounds of Hogwarts and everyone suspects that her target is…Harry. Will Harry be able to protect himself? Or will his friends protect him? However, a traitor is lurking in the shadows.
Chapter 1
The Warning
It was Harry's summer after his first year at Hogwarts, and it was going to be a long one. The Dursley's were just as bad as ever. However, they seemed to ignore him more than actually picking at him; they were afraid that he'd use whatever he had learned at school on them. They didn't know that magic was forbidden outside of Hogwarts for students, though, and Harry didn't plan on telling them. It proved useful whenever Dudley tried to stick his piggish hands in Harry's face.
The one thing that kept Harry from going insane was the frequent owls he got from his friends. The whole Weasley family sent him an owl at least once a week, and Hermione followed suit. He also got an owl or two from Hagrid, Professor Dumbledore, and even one from Neville.
At the moment, Harry was sitting in the hammock in the backyard of 4 Privet Drive, hoping that Dudley would remain entranced with his favorite television show. The sky was slowly darkening and Harry looked up at it and sighed. Was it his imagination, or was the sky actually turning purple? It seemed rather violet, almost the color of Uncle Vernon's when he was really angry.
"Hmm…that's really unusual," Harry thought.
Then, beyond his belief, he saw a bright shooting star! His glasses dropped from his eyes. After retrieving them, he just stood there in the yard, not knowing what to do. He remembered what Hagrid had said to him earlier that year: "If there ever be a purple light 'n th'sky, this is a sign of true danger! Not only fer the one who sees it, but fer all witches an' wizards, 'Arry!"
Harry held his breath. If the purple light in the sky hadn't convinced him, the shooting star had. Just then, he heard the high pitch of an owl screech overhead. He looked up and saw the Weasley family's old and decrepit owl, Errol. He dropped a letter and landed clumsily on the hammock next to Harry, exhausted and drooping.
Harry opened the letter and saw that it was from the Weasley's.
Dear Harry,
How are you, dear? I hope the Dursley's are treating you well. I am writing to tell you that a very dangerous death eater named Reine Crotter has been seen lurking around Hogwarts and last week was spotted somewhere in Surrey. Professor Dumbledore would like me to tell you to be alert when you go out, or should I say if you go out, with the Dursley's. As long as you are on Privet Drive, you cannot be touched, but otherwise, be careful. Ron has asked me if you could come and stay at the end of the summer, and it is perfectly all right with me. I look forward to seeing you then.
Love you dear, Mrs. Weasley
There was more to the letter, from the rest of the Weasley's. The second part was from Ron.
Hey Harry,
How've you been? Everything's okay here, 'cept Ginny's driving me bloody insane. She keeps askin' about you.
No I don't! (it seemed that Ginny had seized the parchment at this moment, because the last bit was from her.)
Harry, yes she is, she jus' won't admit it. Anyway, mum said you could stay at th'end of summer! Maybe around your birthday? I dunno, we'll figure it out later on. Don't let her get you stressed out about that death eater thing. There's nothing that says that she's looking' for you, and if she was, well…it'll be a'right. Ugh, Fred and George want to say something. Bye Harry, Ron.
Harry smiled as he read the next part from Fred and George.
A'right, Harry? We want you to know that Ginny HAS been talkin' 'bout you, and she can't wait until first of term to see you. Uh-oh, she's giving us a glare. *ahem* Anyways, we got some new, um…inventions that we'd like you to try, so can't wait to see you when you come to the Burrow! With all the love that we possess, Fred and George.
Harry snickered at the letter. He wondered what the twins were up to and decided he didn't want to know. Then, Aunt Petunia yelled at him to come inside and do the dishes, so he made his way back into the house, anticipating his trip to the Burrow.
