Promise me you'll look after the others. These words were always etched in the back of the high king's mind. Peter could not remember who said them any longer. He supposed that it had to be someone back in Spare Oom, the land the four young monarch's lived in before Narnia, but he could not for the life of him remember why it was so important that he kept this promise. Peter guessed that who ever said these words to him was someone who even before he was a king, back when he was a child, put a lot of trust in him. He thought that he admired this person, whoever they were a lot, for if he had not he wouldn't have made this promise. This promise was something Peter the Magnificent remembered upholding in any decision he had to make involving the four siblings.

Susan's suitors had to be approved by him. No one was going to treat his sister badly. If she went to go visit a suitor he approved of or as an ambassador to a foreign country on behalf of Narnia she had to have a guard with her. If he couldn't go with her someone would have to. She had to come back safe. He promised to look out for her. Besides she didn't like to fight much. She needed someone there to do it for her.

Edmund, on the other hand, was the sibling who gave him the most trouble. He did run away to the witch when Peter wasn't paying attention. He also wouldn't do as he was told. Peter told him to retreat and look for the girls and get them back to Spare Oom. He had tried to pass the torch on so to speak. Peter had a feeling he wasn't going to make it back. So what does Ed do? He ignores his plea and attacked Jadis himself, getting a wound that would have killed him if Lucy and her magical Fireflower juice hadn't arrived in time. Edmund had taught Peter that there was more than one way to look out for a person. He could use supervision like he did with Susan or ask around about the person. He did that technique with Ed. Edmund didn't like to know he was being looked out for the way Susan did.

Lucy was a bit more difficult. They had been in Narnia for five years now and all of her siblings had grown up in that time. She was still a child at 13 and Peter knew that he couldn't let her loose out on her childhood. Everyday he made her go out and play, go talk with Mr. Tumnus, visit Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, and just have a few hours of the day to not focus on ruling Narnia. She was always the most imaginative of them and he didn't want her to lose that or her innocence. Depending on how she was feeling she would oblige or grumble. But every night at supper without fail she would rush up, throw her arms around him in a hug and tell him about her day. Of course she had guards and such if she needed to go away to Narnia. He also made sure the Mr. Tumnus and a beaver went as well. They understood his concerns for her and supported him. It was a way to look out for her.

Once they were back in London all safe and sound, after Lu led them back through the wardrobe he remembered. Mum. Mum had asked him to promise to look after the others. He knew that once they were back home she would be proud of the job he did, but what she didn't know is that Peter Pevensie was planning on keeping it up.
