Doubts
"How goes your search?" Maes smiled at the boy while closing the bedroom door behind him.
"The same as always," Edward replied moodily as he began removing his shirt. Maes spared a glance at the taut muscles that were revealed by the young boy's action. Small talk before their trysts was routine, but something in Edward's voice gave the man pause.
"I'm sure you'll find it eventually," he said reassuringly as he moved behind the boy.
Edward ran a hand through his hair, and said in irritation, "Everyone keeps saying that!"
Maes murmured encouragement into Edward's blond locks as his strong hands moved over the teen's sculpted muscle and the smooth metal of his arm to clasp around the boy's chest.
"But every time we get a new lead, we end up on another wild goose chase. I'm so fucking sick of that bastard Mustang and his 'know-it-all' attitude! If he already knows the outcome of all those pointless missions, then why does he send us on them in the first place?!"
Hughes would have smiled at the familiar words coming from the boy's lips if he hadn't heard the note of desperation.
"I just… I'm so sick of being in these bodies! We're barely even human like this!" The emotion was thick in Edward's voice. Maes tightened his hold on him comfortingly.
Edward choked back a sob, "Who could ever love half a man…?"
Righteous anger filled Maes at the thought that someone could ever allow Edward to feel that way. He whirled the boy around to face him. The tawny eyes refused to meet the older man's; the orbs shining extra bright in the dim light.
"You are not half a man," Maes stated. "Look at me Edward." Hesitantly, the eyes moved their gaze from the Maes' dark sweater to his face.
"You are more of a man then half of those in the military, and a better man at that. Flesh doesn't make the man; your brother proves that to anyone who would know enough to take notice. You will succeed in your goal Ed. Of that, I have no doubt."
Edward's eyes wavered from their position, but Maes leaned down to press his lips to the boy's own before they could drop completely. Edward decided to let his worries go for the moment and leaned into the feel of the kiss.
Brutal comments welcome, i have no heart, so it won't be broken.
