A Little Discipline

"Havoc!" Riza Hawkeye-Havoc called from the kitchen. She had a news paper in one hand and a mug of coffee in the other. Her uniform, which had many more stars in stripes since she became a General, was perfectly pressed and her hair was bound. She was obviously about to leave for Central.
"Why is the baby crying!" She continued after a sip of coffee.
Havoc, or Mr. Hawkeye as the boys had been calling him, stumbled in with a two year old on one hip and an unlit cigarette dangling from his lips. Riza had forbid smoking after James Edward had been born and he had taken to chewing on the filter in frustration. His bloodshot eyes glared at his wife's impeccable appearance.
"I don't know!" He cried his voice almost as keening at the squalling toddler in his arms.
"Stand right there by that wall, Havoc." She commanded softly.
Havoc obeyed dutifully and stood still, awaiting further instruction. In a flash Riza upholstered her gun and unloaded a round into the wall behind them. Black Hayate winced in sympathy as the noise reverberated around the room and slung a paw over his eyes.
As the dust cleared, and Riza could see her husband again, watched his cigarette fall to the floor as his mouth went slack. His knees gave out and he sank to the floor, still dumb with astonishment. The baby giggled brightly and bounced out of his lap and ran to his mother.
Riza plucked the child from the floor and nuzzled his tear streaked face.
"Now don't cry so much, it drives daddy a little crazy." She sat the baby back on the floor.
"He just needed a little discipline." She shrugged.
The General bent to kiss her husbands still slack jaw and walked out the door, humming softly to herself.
