Warnings: Het! (The horror!)
When Havoc and Riza were wed, everyone was curious as to how this unlikely pair had gotten together. It all started one evening at headquarters.
Riza Hawkeye, gun-mistress extraordinaire, was pacing her office irritably. She was normally a very secure woman without the foolish tendency to go off on an emotional tangent anywhere near her job. But she had done EVERYTHING, short of walking into his office naked, to make the Colonel love her. He seemed adamant about keeping her as a close friend and protector. He had no problem with dallying in the secretarial pool, so it wasn't a co-workers thing. She had just composed herself enough to go to his door when she heard a thump and a muffled groan.
Gun ready she silently opened the door and had to quickly master her gasp. Full Metal was on his back, clothing discarded all around the room, across the desk. A dark head was settled between his parted thighs. One dark eye slid opened lazily, but it did not focus on her. It looked up at Ed and they were filled with all the emotions she had come to assume the Colonel didn't possess.
Fighting the urge to scream and cry and rage at the two of them she slipped from the room. Once outside she let her gun fall to the floor along with her tears. It was late in the evening; many of the junior officers had already left, leaving her alone with her misery. Riza never let herself fall apart like this, and when she did it was in the privacy of her own bath tub with a glass of wine and a lot of bubble bath. But the sight of them, the beautiful perfection they made was too much. She lolled back against the wall and tried to regain her composure enough to escape. She wanted as much distance between her and that room as she could get.
"Hawkeye?" Her head snapped up and her eyes widened. Unshed tears pooled in them, making her eyes shimmer lightly.
"Riza, are you ok?" Havoc forgot formality and hierarchy as he slid down to the floor beside her.
She went to nod, but the need to break was too severe. Warm arms went about her shoulders and gently pulled her to him. She gratefully sank against him and allowed him to support her for once. Her silent tears soaked through his shirt, but he didn't seem to mind. He let her stay there until it was all out of her system.
"You found out, didn't you?" He asked softly, tightening his arms around her need to flee.
"You knew…" She was cut off.
"Just found out, I was on my way to warn you. I knew how you felt about Colonel Asshole in there. You don't deserve this." He wiped a tear away with his thumb and she leaned into the caress.
"Can we go somewhere?" She asked him brokenly.
"Your place or mine?" He smiled and she found herself echoing it.
"Mine. I have to feed the dog, not to mention the fact that I clean once in a while."
Havoc led her to her dorm and fed the dog. She started a pot of coffee and settled at the table. He knew better than to smoke in her room, so he chewed the filter absently as he got two mugs of coffee and brought them to the table.
"Thank you, Havoc." Her smile was genuine this time and it made Havocs heart speed up.
He blushed and ran a nervous hand through his hair. She stood and pulled him into her arms, laying her head atop his. With a grin he returned the embrace. This time, the Colonel wasn't getting the girl.
