His First Attempt:
There she was, in the library. He eyes darted over the pages of the books she read. She brushed her hair out of the left side of her face, hooking it behind her ears. Her back was hunched, bent over a stack of parchment. She was unlike the other girls, he noticed. She didn't follow him around. She didn't giggle or squeal. She didn't beg for his autograph. She was quiet, bookish and beautiful. Taking a deep breath, he walked from his place behind a shelf to her table. He stood at the side and cleared his throat, an action which made her raise her head.
"Hello. " she said.
"Hermi-one, wasn't it?" He asked, his accent thick.
"Her-MY-Oh-Nee. Can I help you, Victor? Do you need one of these books?" She asked, gesturing to the mountain of books.
"No, I actually have a question."
"Fire away." She said.
"Vould you like to go to the Yule Ball with me?" He asked, looking at his hands.
"Oh, I-uh... My friend, he, er, needs help with the tasks." She stuttered, before gathering her parchment and stuffing it all in her bag. She flicked her wand at the books, so that they all jumped back into the shelf. She edged past Victor and practically ran to the common room. She had wanted Ron to ask her. He kept looking as if he might.

His Second Attempt
Hermione was talking with Ginny by the black lake when he strolled over. He asked Ginny to leave politely before turning to Hermione.
"Vould you like to accompany me to the Ball?" He asked hopefully.
She racked her brain for another excuse. Anything. Just anything. Then something hit her.
"You know Ginny? She said her friend might want to go with me, so I'll wait for him. Is that ok?"
He nodded his head before turning away, head bowed.

Lucky number 3.
"Hey, 'Mione? You're a girl."
"Well done, Ron. Yes, I am a girl."
"Come with me to the ball, then? Be a bit sad if you turn up alone.
She stood up angrily and handed Snape her textbook.
"I won't be going alone, because someone's asked me. And I said yes!"
She exited the hall to the entrance hall and began walking up the stairs to the Gryffindor Tower.
"'Mione, vait for me!" A voice called, just as she was outside the portrait of the Fat Lady.
"Victor, would you like to go to the ball with me?" She asked, turning to him.
"I, uh, vell yes. I vas actually going to ask you the same thing!"
"Well you know the answer then, don't you?"
He nodded and laughed. His laugh was rich and joyful.
"See you at the ball, Victor."
"See you at the ball."
