A/N: Just a little one-shot based off of the lines from 'Goodbye Love'. Hope you enjoy!

How could we lose Angel?

Looking back on it, Mark would find Roger's reaction somewhat surprising. It wasn't as though Angel's death had been sudden or unexpected. In fact it was the long weeks leading up to the drummer's death that made it so hard to bare. Angel's death was a harsh slap in the face from reality; it was a sign of what was to come for the others.

Maybe you'll see why

When you stop escaping your pain

Roger ran, cause that's what Roger does. He runs, or hides, or buries himself in self-pity until he can't remember why he was hurting in the first place. A part of him hated himself for it, but a bigger part of him hated watching Mark do the exact same thing, just in plain sight. Mark didn't run away physically, but he detached from his life to such an extent that you would think he wasn't even living.

At least now if you try Angel's death won't be in vain

The funeral had been nice; simple, but classy. It was how Mark though Angel would have liked it. A few of them sharing special memories…the funeral was peaceful, unlike the horrible fight that had broken out afterwards. After such a beautiful memorial to Angel, Mark couldn't believe that everyone lost control so easily and allowed themselves to act in such a manner that was so contrary to Angel's memory. Angel was their peacemaker; the one who sat people down when there was a problem and helped them fix it. Without him, the chaos of their relationships took over.

His death is in vain

Mark went home with Roger's words ringing in his ears. He refused to believe it. The filmmaker kept repeating to himself that it wasn't true; that Angel's death had a meaning, that a life like that couldn't end for nothing. Mark couldn't allow himself to think that Angel's death had been in vain. If he allowed himself to think that, then…it would all be for nothing. All of the pain, the suffering…there would be no reason for Mark having sacrificed and fought the uphill battle that he knew would eventually end in tragedy. No…he refused to believe Roger's cynical words. There was a reason, a purpose…

There just had to be.
