Hi there. So I came across this poem I wrote a long time ago and thought I'd see what you guys think. Set in their first Hunger Games, the aim was to show the two sides of Katniss and Peeta's experiences: the loving comfort of their relationship against the terror and brutality of their situations. I don't know if it's very good/if it makes much sense, but enjoy :)
Two hearts flutter, like butterflies
Trapped forever in a bony cage;
Hands entwined, fingers linked
The skeletal chains that hold them together.
Thoughts wander like clouds drifting the sky
Trying to escape the spiky rocks below.
Two pairs of lips part slightly, temptingly,
Because they need to discuss battle strategies.
Hold me close, and don't let go
Because the monsters are all around me
And the cold is penetrating.
Two bodies curl up together,
In a dark secluded cave
Surrounded by the towering shadows
Which are stroked by the gentle moonlight.
Hold me close, protect me please
From that skulking spectre
Reflected in the orbs of your eyes
And obscured by musty cannon smoke
Always there like clockwork, ticking time,
His blade shines like a morning star.
What is that fragrance, that aroma?
Is it the flowers which flourish in the mud,
Or is it the rusty stench of blood
As it drips from the moon that is not mine,
As it screams through the cracks of my conscious.
The breeze flows, rustles the green leaves,
The sun offers us rays of warmth in her hands,
Birdsong gently pulses in the air,
That three note whistle drifted away with the wind.
A flash of silver, like an arrow flung for your heart
Glides past with focussed aimlessness
I feel a breath next to my ear, pungent with alcohol.
When the world is against you,
All you have is each other, two human beings to
Comfort, caress, whisper kind words;
For your skin to turn to fire upon their touch,
The sparks in the ocean of your eyes
Keep me alive, so I need you forever.
I also need dead flesh.
So on a scale of 0 - Finnick Odair, how was it? Please review :)
