"Mum, I'm afraid!"
The little girl jumped on the bed, waking her mother in a gasp.
« Oh, Ashley ». Still half asleep, Helen took her daughter in her arms, reassuring her. Their every day life was no good for her daughter's dream, sometimes even Big Guy scared her at night, when she was so brave during the day, sometimes spending entire afternoons exchanging thoughts with the mermaid. Her rarest moments of peace, actually.
The young girl curled in her arms, unable to stop the sob coming up her throat. She was safe now, everything would be all right.
Suddenly waking up, panting and sweating, Helen Magnus let out a dolorous cry. Nothing was all right, her daughter was gone. The remembrance of past tenses wouldn't help her cope with her loss. Caught off guard by the brisk chill of the room, the sudden lack of presence, she wrapped her arms around herself, trying to keep the sob from escaping her own throat now. Their was just about nothing she could do, but mourn. Wait and see. She had hardly anything to wait for, but a future that couldn't be any better, and was very likely to be far worse, actually. All that she would see was new losses of friends she had made. One moment there, the following everything would be gone, and she would be on her own again. As she had told her daughter that day, she was the one afraid now.
