Hello, everyone. Lovely day to read, isn't it? As promised, here is another new story. Enjoy!

"Counting"

Matsuda, Ryuzaki, and Light were working together on the Kira case one evening when Matsuda suddenly sat up straight in his chair.

"I forgot to give Misa-misa one of the contracts for a new advertisement... I'll be back in a minute!" cried Matsuda, racing off.

Immediately, Ryuzaki began to count aloud. "One… two… three…"

Light lifted an eyebrow. "Ryuzaki. What are you doing?"

"Well," the eccentric genius replied, "Matsu-san said he would be back in a minute, so I am counting. Fifteen… sixteen… seventeen…"

"He didn't mean literally," Light said, exasperated.

Ryuzaki merely shrugged and continued to count. "Twenty… twenty-one… twenty-two… twenty-three… twenty-four… twenty-five…"

Light rolled his eyes. You've got to be kidding me.

Matsuda returned. According to Ryuzaki, the dense cop rejoined them after exactly 2 minutes, 32 seconds, and 45 milliseconds. Light did not doubt the overly-blunt male, but still found it ridiculous that he had bothered to count in the first place.

But then, when he sat down and took a second to consider it, he began to understand.

Ryuzaki hardly ever took breaks; he was there, working, when everyone left, and he was there when they returned the next day. Not only that, but he also ate while he worked, frequently asking others- usually Matsuda or Watari- to fetch him his snacks. According to dim-witted Matsuda, there had only been one occasion when he had even seen the detective asleep- and even then, it had been in his unique sitting position, in front of a computer. Ryuzaki had nothing near to a normal life; he needed some occasional form of entertainment.

Even if that included childishly counting the exact amount of time before a person returned to a room.

Light nodded, both accepting and dismissing Ryuzaki's newest quirk

"Well, then," Matsuda exclaimed with a wide grin, "Shall we get back to work?"

Ryuzaki nodded, turning back to the computer screen.

I am considering adding a second chapter to this short story. However, that just depends on the reaction from you, the readers. If you would like a second chapter, please do let me know.

Also, feel free to look into my other stories. So far, I have two: "Food" – a Death Note short story- and "One Christmas Eve"- a Fullmetal Alchemist short story.

And by the way, I will do my best to publish two stories a week- one on Mondays and another on Fridays. There are more to come, so please read!
