In honor of leap day, I hope you enjoy!
"Genuis!"
"Brilliant!"
"Remarkable!"
"Amazing!" Remus groans as he hears the thundering footsteps coming down to the commons, accompanied by the excited voices of two of his friends. He exchanges confused looks with Peter as they rush in. They look really excited, which just makes Remus all the more nervous. Sirius drags him into the corner, Peter close behind, and the plan is explained.
"We can't do that!" Remus protests, "We could get in trouble!"
"We will get in trouble! If we do it right, anyways. Come on, Moony, just this once?" Sirius begs.
"Wasn't it the once last time too? And the time before-" James cuts him off.
"You know you love it." He winks, and Remus scowls, "Now let's get ready for a holiday!"
"What do you mean, you're not coming to class?" Professor McGonagall surveys the four strangely dressed sixth year boys with apprehension.
"We hope you'll understand-" James starts
"But it's the rules-" Sirius continues
"It's just too important a day for school!" They end in unison. McGonagall is truly perplexed.
"What day is it?" She tries to recall what holiday involves dressing in yellow and blue striped robes.
"What day is it? What day is it?" Sirius thunders. He sees Remus trying to sneak off and pulls him back. "What kind of cold, heartless person doesn't remember leap day!" Remus coughs, and Sirius glares at him, "You mean you HAVEN'T been counting down the days for the past four years?"
"That is SICK!" James yells. Peter, in badly transformed robes, nods in an attempt to be involved. Remus glowers at them all before turning around and storming away.
"Wait, Moony!" Sirius runs after him, looking remorseful. James watches them leave, before addressing the Professor once more.
"So you see, we really do need the day off, we're quite religious involving this holiday." And James leaves too.
"It was just a bit of fun!" Sirius shouts to the closed door, which is very well locked. There's silence. "Moony? Are you there? Remmy? I'm sorry! I really am, I know I pull you into a lot of things that you don't want to do, I just wanted you to have some fun, I mean, it's leap day! There's only one of these every four years!" The door opens, and a grumpy Remus comes out.
"Help me turn my robes back" is all he says, and Sirius grins.
"Say please?" Remus shoves him, grinning too.
It takes longer to fix the robes than it did to color them, and after they're fixed, Remus and Sirius start a game of exploding snaps. Halfway through, James and Peter join them. When Sirius wins, Remus jumps up suddenly.
"We forgot classes!" Sirius smacks his face, and they start getting up to rush off before James starts to laugh. "What's so funny?"
"We forgot to tell you," James says between gasps, "We get the holiday off!"
