Did You Get My Note?

"What's wrong?" Rory Gilmore asked her mother. She had just gotten home from running a few errands with her boyfriend Dean Forrester and found her mother sitting at the kitchen table with her chin resting in her hands.

"Nothing." Lorelai Gilmore replied quietly.

"Mom, spill." Rory said as she plopped down in the chair next to Lorelai.

"It's Luke. He's really upset with me. I mean, I can't blame him, but…well, he's really upset." It had been about a week since Rory's car accident which lead to Lorelai blowing up in the face of her longtime friend Luke Danes. She hadn't meant to blame him for the car in which his nephew was driving and her daughter had broken her wrist, she was just so angry and so scared that the words flew out of her mouth before she could stop them. She also hadn't meant to tell him to 'go to Hell'. She regretted everything about that night, a night that may have cost her a great friendship.

"Okay, you have to tell me…what happened? What did you say? What did he say?" Rory knew of the fight but her mother wouldn't tell her what they had said.

"Rory, I don't want to repeat it. It wasn't my finest moment and Luke has every right to be angry with me. I just need to find a way to get him to forgive me."

"Do you apologize?" Rory asked. Lorelai sighed.

"I tried. At Doose's. I ran into him today and tried to talk to him but he would barely look at me and then said he had to get back and left. I hurt his feelings and I don't know if he will ever forgive me."

"Sure he will, mom. Luke cares about you. I know he does. He'll get over it. If he won't talk to you, why don't you try writing him a letter and apologize that way?" Rory suggested as she got up from her chair and grabbed a sheet from the Garfield and Friends stationary sitting on the kitchen counter. "Do it on this. No one can resist Garfield."

"I guess it's worth a shot," Lorelai said as she grabbed a pen. Rory smiled as she retreated to her room in order to give her mom some privacy. Lorelai stared at the paper for a few minutes before she began to write:

Luke,

The other night was an awful night for both of us. I should never have said what I said and blamed you for the accident. I know it was not your fault. I was angry and terrified over what had happened and I took it out on you and for that I am truly sorry. I have never doubted that you care about Rory and would never want to see her hurt. I am sorry for hurting your feelings and I hope you can find a way to forgive me because your friendship is very important to me. Again, I am so, so sorry.

Lorelai

Lorelai placed the note into the Garfield envelope, addressed it simply to Luke, then wait until the diner was closed and slipped it under the door and quietly walked back to her home.
