"'…Therefore let all the house of Israel know most certainly, that God hath made both Lord and Christ, this same Jesus, whom you have crucified'…

"They therefore that received his word, were baptized; and there were added in that day about three thousand souls."

'Twas here, just fifty days ago, we stood,
My wife and I, two atoms in the crowd,
With hearts inflamed, with voices harsh and loud,
To send the Teacher to the cursèd wood.

We knew, indeed, that all his works were good,
But what was truth to seeing Pilate cowed?
And so, in all good earnest, we avowed:
"Upon us and our children be his blood!"

How strange the ways of God in answered prayer!
The blood of Christ is on us now, indeed,
Potent in grace to heal, and cleanse, and spare.

And so, this day, again we warmly plead:
May all our children, through the ages, bear
The saving blood of Him who came to bleed.
