If

by Crys Ritter

I know this is REALLY short and probably not very good but this song just screamed at me for a story about Arwen even though I couldn't get the muses to help me out. Bad Rocky! Bad Lucky! Naughty muses get no crunchies!

I'd be willing to change it if someone has any ideas (nudge! hint! nudge! )

The song is Hunter written by D. Armstrong and R. Armstrong, from the Dido album No Angel. No copy write infringement is intended.

I don't own anything; it all belongs to people more rich and famous than me.

Not beta'd, there isn't enough to make it worth while.

---*---

If you were a king up there on your throne, would you be wise enough to let me go
for this queen you think you own
wants to be a hunter again, I want to see the world alone again
to take a chance on life again, so let me go
if you were a king up there on your throne, would you be wise enough to let me go
for this queen you think you own
wants to be a hunter again, I want to see the world alone again
to take a chance on life again, so let me go, let me leave

For the crown you've placed upon my head feels too heavy now
and I don't know what to say to you but I'll smile anyhow
and all the time I'm thinking, thinking
I want to be a hunter again, I want to see the world alone again
to take a chance on life again, so let me go

*~*~*

Aragorn held out his arm and Arwen draped hers across his as they entered the great hall. The king glanced at her as he felt her footsteps slow. He saw the wistful look in her eyes and once again he wondered if she regretted her decision to give up her immortal life to be with him.

"Arwen? Are you all right?" Aragorn asked his wife.

"Hmm?" Her eyes focused on his face and she smiled. "Yes, I am. I was just thinking."

She followed her king to the throne and sat on the edge of her seat, watching as the assembled guests bowed and curtsied before them. A small sigh escaped her lips and she glanced at her husband to see if he may have heard her indiscrete expression of boredom. Aragorn did not appear to have noticed, he sat stiffly, smiling and nodding at the courtiers before them.

The air in the hall was stale and smelled of smoke and sweat, not the most pleasing of odors to her Elven sense of smell. 'How I miss the smell of the wind and water in Rivendell. The breeze blowing off the snowy mountains, now that would be bliss right now.' she thought.

Aragorn saw the smile that traced her lips, "So you think it is a good idea?" He asked.

Startled, Arwen did not immediately reply, only looked wide eyed at him, wondering what he could possibly be talking about. The hurt expression on his face almost made her want to laugh.

"Or do you hate the idea?" He said, mistaking her silent amazement for disapproval.

Arwen forced a smile, feeling rather silly as she replied, "I'm sorry my love what were you saying?"

"The feast. Should we reschedule it for next week instead of next month?"

"Oh," Arwen could feel her smile freezing, "No need to hurry things. We should give everyone time to get ready don't you think?" She just couldn't get excited about the prospect of hosting a gathering of the Rohan people and the people of her new kingdom. Right now all she wanted was to ride through the forest alone except for birds and beasts.
