Olivia counted the days over and over in her head; this couldn't be right. Sure, she had been feeling a little sick and tired lately, but Nostradamus assured her it was just stress from moving in exile and that she needed to take it easy. When she discovered she was late for her monthly cycle, she started to freak out a little bit. She and Nostradamus were only married for three months; it was far too soon to get pregnant. As she leaned over the bucket and started to vomit again, there was no denying it. She was with child, and she had to tell Nostradamus.
…
"What's wrong, love?" Nostradamus asks her at dinner a week later.
"Nothing," she smiled.
"Something is. Why won't you tell me?"
Olivia sighed. "Promise you won't be disappointed?"
"Why would I be?"
"I'm pregnant."
Nostradamus's eyes widened. "You are?"
"I'm going to have a baby."
He smiled and pulled her to him and kissed her. And with that, all of her worries disappeared.
…
Olivia vomited into the pot, again. She brushed her teeth and came back to bed.
"Is this normal?" she asked her husband.
"Yes, love. It should stop when you're around three months in."
She groaned and covered her head with a pillow while her husband laughed.
"It just means that the baby is healthy, love."
"Yeah, yeah."
….
"I'm getting so fat," Olivia complained to Nostradamus while she rubbed her growing belly.
"You aren't fat; you're beautiful," he said and kissed her.
"You have to say that, you're my husband."
"Even if I wasn't I would think you were the most beautiful woman in the world."
"You're just saying that so I don't hate you."
"Why would you hate me?"
"For doing this to me."
"You wouldn't ever hate me."
"That's true." she smiled and kissed him.
…
"I hate you for doing this to me!" she screamed while she was giving birth.
"Just one more push, love. One more push and our baby will be here."
"You said that last push!"
"This one I mean it."
Sure enough, one more push and their daughter, Juliette, came into the world. As soon as Olivia saw her, she knew that her daughter was worth all that trouble; she was gorgeous.
