Disclaimer: Stargate SG-1 belongs to MGM and SciFi channel, not me
Author's Note: Okay, I realize that this one may look short and pointless, but I had to find some reasoning as to why Daniel was chosen in "Avatar", even after they all volunteered to go. It provides me with closure for the episode. Not to mention, it only took me about 10 minutes to write!
Chosen
"I'll do it," each member of SG-1 chimed in at the same time.
Teal'c was trapped in that chair and it wasn't going to stop "torturing him" if someone didn't go in and do something.
"Now, come on. You two know I'm the most qualified to go in there and save Teal'c," Jack said.
"But, you're also a general, sir. The commander of the entire base. We can't risk losing you to the chair, also," Carter argued.
"Oh, so we can't risk losing me, but we can lose one of you...and Teal'c!?!" Jack asked loudly and sarcastically.
"Well, look at it this way: we can't let the chair learn from your tactical experience, sir. Think of how weird things would get!" Sam said, but immediately realized the insult she had implied and quickly said, "Sorry, sir, no offense."
"None taken. But seriously, don't you think it should be me? My tactical experience might come in handy! Besides, you need to stay out here and control all these...machine doohickeys."
"I guess it's settled then," Daniel, who had, smartly, not been involved in the argument, said, as he climbed into the chair.
Jack and Sam stared at him.
"What?" he asked. The doctors strapped him in, and reminded him of what he was about to do: see 2 seconds into the future, help Teal'c, risk his life in the face of grave danger, yadda, yadda...
"Okay, let's go," Daniel said, and the chair was turned on. Daniel appeared immediately on screen as the next simulation started.
"...That's...not...fair..." Jack said absently. He and Carter had been so involved with trying to stop the other from getting into the chair, they had...forgotten about Daniel.
"He was the best choice, anyway, sirs," Dr. Lee said. "He had relatively good, but not...eccentric tactical experience, and Major Carter is much more help out here, helping with the machines."
Jack and Carter looked at each other, shook their heads, and focused back on the screen, just in time to see Daniel get shot, not by a Super Soldier, but Teal'c.
"Why'd he shoot him?"
"Daniel's been a Goa'uld in the last few simulations."
"I knew I should have gone in there," Jack said.
"Please, sir, the last thing we need is for the game to learn from your tactical experience," Sam said.
"Oh, yeah? Well..." And the fighting went on...
THE END
