Chapter 1
Departure
Part 1
" No! I won't do it!" Princess Arria screamed hysterically which was completely out of her character. "I'm sorry Father but it's simply impossible to go through with this." She declared with more authority than she had ever used in her life; sadly, her effort wouldn't amount to anything.
Clenching and unclenching the fists that lay stiffly at both sides, Arria believed she had the right to act against her parents' wishes. King Triant, ruler of the land of Arkwell and the crying princess' father, was in a fix. The Draths, Arkwell's mortal enemies, had taken an upper hand in the ten year war between the two lands. Arkwell's able bodied fighters were dwindling as well as the women and children as they were being taken by famine and disease. The only way to save the precious kingdom was to unite with the Draths through marriage. That's why Princess Arria was in the presence of her father at that very moment.
" Arria, you are my only daughter that is at the age to be with child; the Draths will accept no less. Don't be conceited. Think about your people; think about your family. You will do it!" The king demanded with a nod of finality. False fire burning in his ember eyes.
Arria was frightened of what she saw in her father and tears welled in the corners of her eyes even though she begged them not to appear until she was alone. How could he be so cruel and heartless to his own daughter. To send her away to live with the Draths was homicide and she swore he knew it. He was the one being conceited. She was only a princess, though, and to disobey the direct order of the king was preposterous.
Kneeling and rising again, golden hair falling over her shoulders and into her face as if to hide her pain, Arria gave in to her Father. "As you wish." Her voice broke and hot tears rolled down her pink cheeks and into the corners of her mouth. Hurriedly she turned for the big wooden doors at the end of the throne room and ran till she was through them.
Part 2
" You look beautiful your majesty." Cally, Arria's personal and most trusted maid, mumbled giving her princess a brave smile as she finished the last few touches on her hair. Arria wiped the last few tears from her big swollen green eyes and returned the smile weakly. Touching Cally's hand, Arria slowly rose and walked over to her suitcase and blindly surveyed it. Honestly she didn't care if anything was missing; the contents only reminded her of what she was leaving behind.
A sudden thought crossed her mind. " You're coming with me right?" Arria asked Cally, fear rising in her heart along with the pitch of her voice. " Of course Your Majesty!" she answered quickly as to end her princess' dismay. Arria was her duty and her life. To let such a person to come to any harm was a sin in Cally's eyes.
" It's time your majesty" a servant said appearing at the door. Clasping Cally's hand for comfort as more servants filed in to grab her thing, Arria said goodbye to all she presently knew.
