Act 1 Scene 1
[Light piano begins while the curtain reveals Kokiri Forest]
Slowly the Kokiri People dance out of their homes with Link still at rest
Saria approaches center stage:
SARIA: He is nothing like us; it becomes more blatant every passing night!
From the right stage we see Mido stand and say rudely:
MIDO (Arms crossed): Who's he?
Saria turns to Mido in disbelief:
SARIA: Link of course! You may have your odd moments Mido but Link is the strangest!
[Piano becomes loud and clear]
Saria takes a seat center stage and the Kokiri gather around her:
Opening song: Strange
SARIA:
Now my forest dwellers
I have seen a large number
Of things you may call odd
While that boy lay in slumber
He grows!
I kid you not
[Gasps]
Inch by inch he begins to tower
Above each layered brick
We must give him reason to leave
An exile soon and quick
Time is running!
We will find a way to deceive
[The Kokiri chorus creeps closer to Saria]
(Whispering)
Tonight we take him home
Where his head can reach the sky
Wherever we may choose
Before a what or why
We drop him!
Where sweat and lava ooze!
[Link reaches the edge of his porch and lets out an obnoxious yawn]
SARIA: Link how long have you been listening?
LINK (puzzled expression): I've heard nothing!
[Chorus lets out a sigh of relief]
