Snowfall
A/N: Post-Winter War.
It had started to snow as soon as Rukia had come back. When Yachiru had gone to ask her Kenny why, he'd made a comment that had led her to believe that her Byakushi's sister was a winter fairy. Not once did she take a look at the calendar to see that the weather could be attributed to the beginning of December.
She had run around on the lawn with a pail, trying to catch as many of the white sparks as she could. But each time they'd touch the bright plastic, they'd turn into water.
Yachiru wasn't happy about this at all, and decided that it would be best to ask someone else about it. Through the streets she ran, leaving footprints in the thin layer of ice that had laid itself down throughout the Seireitei. She'd gone straight to the Kuchiki Mansion, not for information, but so she could leave her Byakushi a drawing. It had been said that he liked cats, so she'd made him one by scratching the ice with her sandals until the ground had shown itself again.
That way, he couldn't feel forgotten.
She'd gone and found Baldy, who had been drinking with Maki-Maki, but he hadn't known anything about Rukia or the snow. In fact, he'd told her to buzz off and go nag the snot out of someone else. At least, that's what she'd tell Kenny. She wasn't allowed to say all the bad words that Baldy used. Kenny had told her that it wasn't nice.
It had been easy to find Feathers, since she'd heard him talking to himself as she'd skipped on by the spa. Although, it didn't make a lot of sense for him to be in a hot bath, since it was snowing and the big tub was outside. But she'd stuck her head over the wall just the same, making the Fifth Seat scream as he'd insisted that she leave and that, no, he didn't know why it had started snowing.
He'd been nicer than Baldy, having said that Kenny might have a better idea.
When she'd arrived back home, she couldn't find her Kenny anywhere. Yachiru looked all around, even in the cracks in the bathroom walls, but she hadn't been able to find him. By the time she'd grown tired of searching, the world outside was more white than she'd ever seen it, making her grin before launching herself straight out the nearest window.
She'd romped around in the snow, giggling and squealing before grabbing a tennis ball and rolling it up until it was as big as her head. That's when she had it. An idea.
"The hell're you doing out here, 'Chiru?" she heard him shout when he came back. "Get yer ass inside and get a jacket! I ain't makin' yer damned chicken shit if ya get sick!"
Yachiru had just smiled, running through the snow to grab his hand. "Kenny, how come it's snowing? Is it 'cause Rukia came home from seeing Berry?" Her eyes widened as she stared up at him. "I think she loves him, Kenny."
He just snorted, rolling his eyes. "I dunno. I think the snow comes from clouds or somethin'. Kinda like rain." He'd completely disregarded her comment about Berry and Rukia.
But that wasn't important anymore "Kenny, come look! I made it all special for ya!"
She hadn't given him any time to respond, tugging until he'd followed, grumbling to himself. When they turned the corner, Yachiru screamed triumphantly, pointing to the snow sculpture that stood before them.
"What the fuck?"
"It's you!" she said, throwing snow over her head. "Do ya like it?"
Kenny tapped the snowman on the head, looking at her with an awkward expression. "Why the hell does it..." A pause. "Why the hell do I have dango in my head?"
Yachiru shrugged. "It was too hard to make your hair like that, so I went and found something in the fridge."
"We don't have dango, Yachiru."
