I'll tell you a secret if you promise not to tell.
Promise?
Dust covered the streets. Rain hit the ground loudly. People scattered. Two lives remained untouched. The beginning of a new era.
The world swirls around them, the sky closes in, no one's looking. She smiles, he smiles back. She looks down at her shoes, he adjusts his glasses.
He touches her hand. She smiles. He laughs. She pouts. He says "I like the name Ginny." She just rolls her eyes. He says "I've got to leave soon." She knows it's for war.
He says; "it's not for war it's for...everyone." And she doesn't get how he can be so strong. She says, "how can you live with all that?" And he says, "I don't think about it I just do it." He says "I'm not scared," and she wonders how that's possible. "How's that possible," she says, "because I'm scared for you."
He smiles because it's one of those odd things you're supposed to smile at, and she smiles back. He says, "I've never thought about dying." She smiles because it's all so new to her. And the world is crumbling at their feet, and they're standing very closely.
The city is closed. Go home.
She says, "I hate how you ignore me." He looks at her, and he sighs because she just doesn't get it. And she nods, because she doesn't get it. And he says, "I'll try not to ignore you anymore." And she says, "good, because it makes me sort of sad whenever you do that. I mean..." and he cuts her off, he just sort of looks at her.
His eyes are on her, and she wants to die because he doesn't see Ginny anymore, she knows. He sees someone who's hurt...he sees someone who's always loved him. Always been there for him. Always wanted only for him to love her back.
Now he's really sorry. Now he wants to die too. Because she wasn't just Ginny all along, she was the girl who loved him. She was the girl who loved him. And though not everyone knew, he was very unlovable sometimes. And he didn't have any parents, and he didn't like the spotlight and he didn't want any of this.
She knows this, she thinks. Well, maybe. She says, "but I'm okay Harry." And he just sort of does nothing; all he wants to do is to get out of this city. Now. He can't think of what to say and his heart is breathing very fast and he can't say anything and he wants to say everything....
And he says, very calmly, very quietly, "it's not okay and I miss you too. And it's nice seeing you. And Ginny, Ginny..". and it's like she's fading away and he's left alone and he says "...and Ginny, all this time I've been loving you..."
She says, "why didn't you tell me sooner?" But she almost laughs, because it's just one of those things. And the city is abandoned right now, and if the people were here they might even laugh. He says, "because this is the right time. right now."
She thinks it's precisely the right time and she doesn't tell him that she's wanted to hear those words from his mouth for what seems like forever. She doesn't tell him that her heart is beating wildly, and she wants to scream. She doesn't tell him that she's waited a very long time and now they can be together forever. She doesn't tell him any of that.
And now he's even closer to her, and now, she thinks, this is living. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life. This is who I want to be with. This is why I'm alive.
He kisses her. He kisses her. She wants to giggle and tell the whole world, she wants to say Harry Potter's mine and we're going to be together forever.
"You're mine Ginny Weasley," he says, "and we're going to be together forever."
And she smiles.
This is what truth is like.
