Dear miss
We are happy to inform you that you have been invited to the great ball at the Elfin Hill. The ball begins tonight when the moon is up.
That was the letter I found one day when I came home from school. Now I suppose most people would be like "yeah… and how am I supposed to get there? They don't even give the address." Then again; most people thinking like that probably wouldn't be invited. You need imagination to receive such an honour. You need to be able to imaging things, to live yourself into another world.
So, anyway, when it was time to go I closed my eyes and kept my destination clear in my mind, and, voila, I found myself in the middle of a great forest. But with no signs of the Elfin Hill nearby.
"Hmm…" I said, "I might've shot a little wrong, but surely I'll find it."
And so I started to walk through the forest. I looked down myself; I was wearing a knee long green dress in some rich fabric with sleeves to just above my elbows, widening out a little, of course some people would say that knee long dresses aren't for balls, that you should have a foot long dress on. But I'm sure the person, whoever that would be, who provided me with the dress also knew I'd end up the wrong place and have to walk. Smiling I took my hand up to my hair to feel it; yes; nice and spiky, just as it should be, guess I'd never imagine my hair being any other way. I like my hair.
It was a wonderful evening, towards the west the sky was a flaming sea of red and golden colours, the birds were chirping, and a little away I could hear the merry sound of a small creek.
I couldn't help myself; I threw my head backwards and started to howl like a wolf.
"I can see why the Elfin King would invite you." A voice suddenly said. At first I couldn't figure out where it came from but then I noticed a troll in front of me.
"Yeah… it's rather random… I know… I do it if I'm overwhelmed with emotions, but… can't really do it with full volume in the middle of a city. People would think I am crazy. Arh. Who am I kidding? I am crazy."
The troll and I decided that we might as well go the rest of the way together, which was rather lucky for me; my lack of direction sense taken in consideration.
"Oh, I see you got the invitation." The elf king said when we arrived. "And that you were able to get here. Now we're just waiting for the werewolf, he isn't that bad as his reputation says, we all just heard him a little while ago."
"Erm… yeah… that would be me…" I said, painstakingly aware that I was becoming bright red in the face.
"You're a werewolf?" someone said surprised.
"No. it's just… I howl… like a wolf…"
At first there was an awkward silence, and then the elf king started to laugh a booming laughter.
"Yes. You are a girl after our taste. What else do you do?"
"Ooh… not much really. I'm really good at imagining things, writing stories, stuff like that. I'd also say I'm quite good at poetry and art."
"What is your opinion when it comes to growing up?"
"I believe that you can have the best from both worlds; the independency that adulthood provides you with. But also the ability to play and, be silly, as only children, and those with the heart of a child, can really do."
It was a wonderful evening; I ate all the food (well, I ate something of all the food, or else I would be rather full.) even though I'm actually very picky when it comes to food, but of course, why would I be that here?
After the food we danced. I tell you; we danced. I have never in my life danced so much. And I quite surely won't ever again.
Then I woke up in my bed. It had all been a dream. Or?
