"Key to the Future"
A feeling of helplessness, he stands alone,
hunted and hiding, struggling for a better life.
He is one boy, the soul survivor of a legacy,
Left to stand alone against an endless evil.
The epitome of his father and mother,
Recipient of their strengths … and weaknesses.
The inheritor of his father's cruelty and power
But raised with his mother's morals and values.
A mixture of two species, one strong, the other weak
He has become a pinnacle in both
Yet, he feels helpless and lost …
He knows he can do nothing to save his friends.
Hope subsided with the death of his mentor,
Replaced by hatred and a need for revenge.
Cold, quiet anger coursing through his veins,
And a new understanding of duty taking root.
So he trained harder and tried harder
And wanted to hope for something better.
But knows he cannot win against them,
So he must try whatever he can.
Through his mother's memories he honors her friends,
Those lost when the androids first appeared, and even before that.
He yearns to meet them, to know them,
And wonders, what were they really like and what could he learn?
However, of one thing he is certain,
They tried their hardest to do something impossible
They fought to protect everyone, to save everyone,
But they failed. Now he must finish where they could not.
As he trains harder and learns more,
He knows he must save everyone from annihilation.
The androids have killed so many already,
And more will die if he does not do something.
So he listens closely to his mother's words.
Learning everything about her friends and family, her lover … his father.
And together mother and son realize something.
The past is the key to the future. Their future.
And so they should try…
