A/N; Why am I doing more Eugene/Rosita angst even when at the present there is no love for this potential pairing? Because they give me feels. And people need to find other pairings out there besides various people/animals/walkers and Daryl.

This is my take on the aftermath of a possible scenario where Eugene reveals his big, bad secret in the TV version.

Summary: Eugene already knew it, for Rosita it had never been about him. He wasn't the guy she loved. He was just the guy who gave some fleeting, arbitrary purpose to the guy she loved. Very short Eugita (Eugene Porter/Rosita Espinosa) with possible season 5 spoilers.

Punishment Enough

Eugene groaned, his eyes opening to the face of an angel named Rosita. The last thing he remembered was Abraham's fist hitting his face. He expected them to leave him for dead but here Rosita was, her face hovering above his like some kind of beautiful dream.

"You son of a bitch."

If it was some kind of beautiful dream she wouldn't have articulated it like that... not that he didn't deserve it. In all his calculations he did see something like this happening, but it was much worse how he imagined it. Rosita wasn't still around in the way he imagined it playing out if he got found out as being a fraud.

She was dabbing at his face gently with some kind of a cloth and he hadn't realized it before but it was throbbing badly where the cloth was. That hadn't been from the punch.

"He kicked you when you were out," she explained.

Eugene could barely manage a nod. Abraham. It could have been much worse and with Rosita around Abraham must have decided to stick around too.

Eugene had never considered himself particularly lucky until that moment. Lucky he didn't get thrown to the wolves... well... walkers. Lucky that there was a beautiful girl that he was entirely unworthy of in every way tending to him at all. She might not have been his, but he was lucky that she cared at all. Here she was with concern in her eyes touching his face.

"Sorry."

"Don't say sorry to me, say it to him. He's the one who wanted to follow you."

Eugene already knew it, for Rosita it had never been about him. He wasn't the guy she loved. He was just the guy who gave some fleeting, arbitrary purpose to the guy she loved.

And he figured that that was punishment enough.
