And it came to pass, a hundred generations since the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, that the heathens said, with their whorish tongues, that the Christ was not the son of David, and that the Word of God was false.

But it was unknown to all that Joseph had a younger brother. And this handsome young man was above in all ways to Joseph. And he took to liking a beautiful young woman named Mary, and she came to like him too.

Then Jacob arranged for his eldest Joseph to have Mary as his wife, for it was tradition that dictated that the eldest shall marry first, and the youngest shall marry last. And thus Joseph and Mary were betrothed.

Unknown to Jacob and Joseph, the younger brother and Mary met in secret. And it was through the younger brother that Mary came to know man, repeatedly.

And Mary conceived him a child. Then the younger brother and Mary became fearful, for they knew that the law of Moses decreed the punishment of death upon adulterers.

Joseph soon came to know of the condition of his wife, and contemplated to divorce her quietly. But the younger brother knew that this was not possible, for Jacob was a famed man.

Then if Joseph did divorce Mary, and Jacob would have to find him another wife, which would take many years since Joseph was a homely man. And the younger brother would wait for even more years to be with Mary.

Above all, Mary would be killed for the crime of adultery, for such was the law of Moses.

So the younger brother went to the chamber of Mary, and wept bitterly upon her chest, at which Mary, possessed of wisdom beyond her age, came upon a brilliant idea.

And she spoke to her lover, and said, "Fear not, my beloved, for thy son will be divine in the eyes of man. Tonight, thou shalt whisper into the ear of my unloved husband, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost."

And the younger brother did what he was told. That night, he entered the chamber of his brother Joseph, and whispered into his ear, "Fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost."

And Joseph awake that morning with a blessed feeling within him, and he took Mary into his home and made her his wife. Mary gave birth to a son, whom she called Jesus, in accordance to the prophecy. And thus Jesus was descended from the line of David.

And the love between Mary and her husband's brother continued until the day he died.
