Final Draft
Have you ever looked up and seen a flying bird-kid? In Maximum Ride by James Patterson, Iggy, a flying bird-kid, is on the run from some very bad people. He wasn't bit by a spider or dipped in a radioactive vat, but he was tested on by mad scientists. They gave him wings and made him blind. As a hero, he and his friends must have intelligence, physical strength, and their supernatural abilities to stay out of the scientists' clutches.
One trait of a hero is intelligence. Iggy shows this trait by making bombs even though he is blind. If you hear an explosion during a fight, you know Iggy just blew up on his enemy! He is also the best cook of the group. Wouldn't it be weird to hear a blind guy offering to cook? He also talks his way out of many problems. Without Iggy's intelligence, his friends wouldn't be able to blow stuff up, eat good food or get out of problems.
Another trait Iggy possesses is physical strength. For example, he and his friends have double the strength of a non-mutated human. Without that, they wouldn't be able to fight the wolf-men. They also have double the endurance of a regular person. If they didn't have that, they wouldn't be able to fly for very long. Iggy also grows twice as fast as humans. He is 6'8" and 14 years old!
Although intelligence and physical strength are important, perhaps the most important is having supernatural abilities. For one, Iggy and his friends can fly! Using that ability, they are able to stay out of the scientists' clutches. Another ability he possesses is super-intelligence. Iggy's last ability is that he can see whiteness. Even though he is blind, he can see anything as long as the background is white. These abilities have helped him get out of some sticky situations.
So, next time you see a kid flying in the sky, think about what I've told you. Heroes like him preserve and fight to make our world a better place. Iggy's intelligence, physical strength, and supernatural abilities keep him and his friends away from the scientists. By talking his way out of problems, fighting wolf-men, and flying all over the world, he keeps his friends and himself out of a cage. He may not be as well-known as Wonder woman or Spiderman, but he's a hero to me.
