She liked being smart one but it simply wasn't enough. Anyone who knew her understood that the label she had been given wasn't accurate at all.

She knew more about hair products than Parvati ever did. If anyone cared to pay attention, they would notice that she was the one who wore her hair in the latest styles and dressed in the latest fashions. If they cared to look, they would see that although Parvati had beautiful hair, she – Padma, had gorgeous hair. They would marvel at the extreme care Padma took in doing her nails every weekend. They would know the undeniable fact of the two Patil twins. Padma was more beautiful.

But she couldn't act like this. People would talk. They would whisper. They would judge. So she shoved her feelings inside. She wrote them all down on a piece of paper and sealed it in an envelope and she left this envelope on top of her dresser.

If Padma knew that she was going to die during the Battle of Hogwarts, she might have moved the letter. She might have not. Honestly, she couldn't understand why she left that letter so obviously out in the open. Secrets like that weren't meant to be easy to discover. Secrets like that could rip sisters apart.

Secrets like that could cause her older sister to break down in miserable tears on May 3rd, 1998 because from Parvati's point of view, Padma had it made.

She just hadn't realized it during her time. And she never would.
