She stared a t the lone girl sitting on the back deck. Sighing, she sat up from the couch, excused herself, and went to sit next to her. After settling, her eyes followed her companion's line of sight before landing on a boy and girl rough housing on the grass. She sighed again.

"Why don't you just join them?" she asked.

The girl continued staring at the two. "I'm not one for rough housing, besides, I always feel super awkward around them anyway," she said.

She hummed at the girl's response. "I'm sure they won't mind doing something else."

The girl sighed and looked at the grey-eyed lady. "That's not the point. Even if we were to do something else, I always end up being the third wheel. I mean I know he only gets to see her a couple of times a year because she lives in New York, but I can't help but feel a bit jealous."

They share these inside jokes and other secrets that I will never know about. It's almost like he lives a whole other life that I could never take part in, and I'm tires of trying to sneak into that world to fit in with them, you know."

The lady nodded her head slowly. "I actually do know what you mean. When I was around fourteen, Percy and I took a road trip with a couple of friend to all these different places, and I was the navigator. Except, I had no clue how to navigate any of the area we were traveling, so Percy called his friend Rachel, who was amazing at directions. At this time, though, I had a huge crush Percy and my jealousy reared its ugly head which absolutely ruined my first impression, but overtime, Rachel and I became great friends. She was actually a bridesmaid at my wedding." She laughed a little and turned to face the brown-eyed girl.

She pulled her knees to her chest and looked towards her, her cheek resting on her right knee. The woman's eyes softened. "You love him don't you?"

She wrapped her arm around the now sniffling girl. "I-I just don't know anymore," she wailed. "I've only known for about and year and a half, and she has known him since they were babies. I know I don't have a chance, so I've just given up but," she wiped her runny nose and smiled a small watery smile. "If he's happy then I have no right to intervene with that happiness. Gosh, that sounds so cliché." She smiled at the girl.

"Do you want to go meet everyone else?" The lady stood up and pulled the lovesick girl up with her.

The girl nodded and followed the woman inside glancing back at the boy swinging the girl around merrily on the grass.

"Although you may not love me, although you may not care. If you shall ever need me, you know that I'll be there. Your love may all be taken, your heart may not be free, but when your heart is broken, you can always lean on me. I'll never stop loving you, I know because I tried. All the oceans in the world, can't hold the tears I've cried." -Unknown

Oh boy. So the lady is Annabeth. The girl with unrequited love is my OC. The boy is the son of Percabeth. The other girl is a demigod legacy, most likely the kid of close friends. This is set in the future. I hope your heart hurts as much as mind did as I was writing this.
