It's All Luck by Winter's Light
Disclaimer: I do not own Prince of Tennis.
The students in the classroom chattered excitedly about the date. The luckiest day of the century was today. They chattered on and on about what they would do right after lunch – as school was being released for the week.
Even the teachers of the school were wandering about and chattering.
But for Echizen Ryoma, it was just another ordinary Saturday. (1)
That morning, he awoke to find his alarm clock had been demolished to pieces sometime earlier. (Perhaps it had been his own fault, when the annoying sound went off; he might have thrown it across the room.)
And that morning, he had awoken late. Therefore, it led to his lack of breakfast and twenty extra laps during practice.
Let's just say Echizen Ryoma was not happy.
He was not happy when he heard the usual "R-Y-O-M-A!!! RYOMA-SAMAAA!" screeches next to club practice. He only had turned, glanced at them before turning away like usual.
He was definitely not happy when Tezuka-buchou had assigned him to play Inui-senpai.
Of all the regulars he could have played, his captain had assigned him the one with the most annoying playing style.
The day in which many would have called the luckiest day in the century, Echizen Ryoma was not finding it very lucky. But then again, it may be because he wasn't superstitious.
The only thing he seemed to have enjoyed was the quiet presence of the coach's granddaughter.
When lunch came around, many students filed out the door to escape the horrid building of learning to go home. For Echizen Ryoma, he merely found a place on the roof and ate in silence, enjoying the breeze.
Minutes later, he slowly opened his eyes and realized with a start, that had fallen asleep after finishing his lunch.
However, all thoughts of getting up were obliterated when he found himself staring up at a pair of wide, chocolate eyes.
"R-Ryoma-kun," she whispered, as if afraid she might break something if she spoke any louder, "you're awake."
Her eyes shined and he couldn't take them off her. "A-Ah…" he replied, just as soft.
They, Echizen lying down and Ryuuzaki kneeling beside him, sat there still as ever.
Echizen slowly got up, never taking his eyes off her. For the first time that day, he realized, he was lucky.
Lucky enough to meet a girl like her.
His arms slowly moved up, hands up to her cheek and slowly, caressing the soft skin.
She did not move, did not flinch. She smiled and reached for his hands in her own.
"Thank you Ryoma-kun," she whispered and moved up to his height.
Their heads were only a few millimeters away. He smiled and moved closer, close enough to count every eye lash on her eyes…
"No… Thank you…"
