To the outsider, it looks cruel.
Space Pirate Cobra, the Invincible Man, has a habit of bringing young and pretty girls onto to his ship and falling all over himself for them. And also for falling all over them. He never seems to mind that Lady watches, her machine eyes revealing no emotion. Even though she and Cobra had been lovers-maybe even more-she never asks him to stop or gives any indication that it upsets her.
It could be that he was mad at her-He had wanted to let her die a peaceful death, in her own body. Instead she chose to live forever in a metal coffin, just so she could be near him—yet never have him again. And she had been fine with that. It was her choice, not his.
Perhaps he is trying to drive her away, demonstrating how what had been, has ceased to be.
Or maybe, it does bother her. The small things she does, such as ignoring any references he makes about any attributes his beauty-of-the-week has. The way, sometimes, she just watches him put the moves on and loves them. The way she runs him ragged with training, or keeps him on strict diets.
She communicates, but only if you read between the lines.
When she's watching him kiss those women, with her metallic, yellow eyes, he's watching her:
And his eyes say everything he never can.
And she never takes her eyes off him.
Every caress, every embrace—each a part of a dance that she has never forgotten, and relives with every new woman he brings onboard.
It's the same for him. He hears her sighs, smells her scent, feels her lips—no matter that she's standing three feet away, no discernible emotion. Her enticing curves a mocking reminder to him: just as soft looking, but now hard and unmovable metal. If he touched her now, she would be cold instead of warm. But this woman in his arms is warm, and that's why it's her—truly her.
Lady.
So it continues, every new woman a testament to the love he can never quite let go, and every diet and training session a sign that it was mutual.
Because she likes him trim, she likes him strong.
And he likes being her eye candy.
