At the young age of 16, Carter Hastings has a long life ahead of her. Her life in District Seven requires hard work in the lumber mills day after day. Being the shame to the family name causes his father to hide him from the world around them. Ti suffers from loneliness, depression, and physical abuse from his father. He wakes up everyday expecting the worst to happen. He is at a point when he is just about to lose hope.
